Healing Together:

Family Grief Education & Support

Is your family carrying silent grief?

  • The pressure of staying strong for the family is becoming a physical weight you can’t carry alone anymore.

  • Watching your adult siblings, parents, cousins or partner pull away into their own world, leaving the family feeling disconnected even when you’re in the same room.

  • Navigating the "double life" of being a composed professional or parent by day, and finally losing it the moment you’re behind closed doors at night.

  • Realizing that grief is making the family "on edge"—where small conversations turn into arguments because everyone’s emotional tank is empty.

You don’t have to hold this alone. A guided space for you and your family can be a powerful act of love and protection.

Culturally rooted grief care for Black families

Kevin Carter, LCSW-C

Senior Grief Therapist and Education Consultant

Meet Kevin Carter

Hi, I’m Kevin, a licensed therapist and grief and loss educator focused on the needs of Black professionals facing grief, loss , and bereavement. I created this service for Black families who are tired of having to explain or defend their grief in systems that don’t see the whole picture.

There is no “right” way to grieve—only honest, imperfect, sacred attempts to love and keep living. My role is to offer structure, education, and a steady presence while honoring your family’s culture, faith, and wisdom. This service offers culturally grounded grief education and support for families (up to 5 members). The goal is to help you build the knowledge and skills to talk openly about pain, navigate complex dynamics,, and support family members who may not have the words for what they feel.

I bring experience supporting families impacted by death (including homicide, illness, accidents), incarceration, foster care/adoption-related loss, estrangement, divorce, and community or racial trauma. If your situation is outside my scope, I’ll be honest and help you find referrals when possible.

Who this series supports

For Families of Any Configuration

This 4-part virtual series is created for adult family members navigating loss together. We hold space for real Black families in all their forms—including adult children and their parents, co-parents, grandparents, blended families, and chosen family

How it works

The 4-part guided experience

A structured, expert-led journey through family healing...

Part 1

Awareness

This is the foundational consultation. We begin by creating a dedicated space for every family member to share their individual and collective experience. We name the loss, identify, how its changed your lives, and begin to define your family's unique grief landscape.

Part 2

Acknowledgement

We validate the realities of your grief and expand language to communicate loss and cultural expressions of mourning. We practice self-compassion alongside collective understanding.

Part 3

Accountability

We move through a customized rhythm of education, guided conversation, and skills-building. We identify your family's existing strengths and unmet needs. We practice listening skills required to repair and maintain bonds during the hardest moments.

Part 4

Alignment

In our final session, we integrate your loss into a long-term vision for the future. We establish a sustainable family care plan, create meaningful rituals to honor your loved one's legacy, and ensure you have the external resources you need to continue the journey.

We combine evidence-based grief frameworks with a deep honoring of Black family systems, spirituality, and community. This series is a specialized educational and relational support program—providing the education and tools and additional options for support your family needs to navigate loss together.

Please Note: While led by an expert, this is not clinical therapy. This is a consultative series designed for family awareness and communication. All sessions are held virtually for your convenience, privacy, and safety.

Questions families often ask

If you don’t see your question here, you can always ask it during your consultation or in the inquiry form inside the Charm Health portal.

Is this the same as family therapy?

No. While led by a clinical expert, this is an educational support series not clinical mental health treatment. We focus on grief education, communication tools, and relational mapping rather than diagnosing or treating mental health disorders. If your family requires clinical therapy, we can provide appropriate referrals.

Who Counts as "family" for this series?

I define family the same way you do. This series is designed for adult family units (ages 18+) in all their forms—including parents and adult children, siblings, co-parents, blended families, and chosen kin. We accommodate groups of 2 to 5 participants per series.

What kinds of losses do you support?

For this series I work with families grieving death (including homicide, illness, accidents). However, please feel free to book a free consultation with me at

eyeinme.com if you are managing other losses such as incarceration, foster care/adoption-related loss, estrangement, divorce, and community or racial trauma. You may be a candidate for individual therapy. If your situation is outside my scope, i'll be honest and offer referrals when possible.

What if a family member doesn’t want to come?

It’s common for one or more family members to feel unsure. We never force participation. We’ll help you decide how to start—sometimes that means beginning with the willing family members and creating invitations (not pressure) for others to join when they’re ready.

What if we have children in the home?

While this specific series is restricted to adults to allow for mature, unfiltered conversation, we do not ignore the children in your village. We provide the adults with specific tools, age-appropriate scripts, and behavioral "red flags" to look for, empowering you to lead and support the younger generation through their grief.

What is the 45-day completion window?

To ensure the momentum of your family’s progress, we recommend completing the four sessions within 45 days. This structure helps keep the "shared language" fresh and allows consistent, focused support as you move through the curriculum together.

Do you accept insurance?

No, not for this service. Insurance only pays for therapy and treatment and this is a educational and support service. If you are interested in a consultation for therapy please visit eyeinme.com to book a therapy consultation.

How do we access the session?

All sessions are held virtually via our secure, video portal. This allows family members to join from different locations while ensuring the highest level of privacy and comfort.
